In a three-team trade, the Phoenix Suns acquired forward Royce O'Neale from the Brooklyn Nets, and forward/guard David Roddy from the Memphis Grizzlies; Brooklyn acquired guard/forward Keita Bates-Diop, guard Jordan Goodwin and three future second-round draft picks from the Suns, and guard Vanja Marinkovic from the Grizzlies; and Memphis acquired forward/center Yuta Watanabe, center/forward Chimezie Metu and a first-round draft pick in 2026 from the Suns. |
O'Neale supplied a team-high 27 points (10-16 FG, 6-12 3Pt, 1-2 FT), six rebounds, three assists and three steals over 36 minutes during Thursday's 120-109 loss to the Spurs.
O'Neale contributed 14 points (5-8 FG, 4-7 3Pt), four rebounds, five assists and four steals over 33 minutes during Monday's 121-119 overtime loss to Portland.
Does a nice job offensively on the wing. Slashes well to the hoop for high-percentage buckets (both on the ball and off) and can hit the open three-pointer. He possesses good length for his size, which helps him both as a defender and as a finisher. Has enough length and skill to play either shooting guard or small forward. He doesn't get enough defensively from his excellent wingspan, and he isn't a very explosive leaper. He has the overall tools of a '3-and-D' wing, but he's not a knockdown perimeter jump shooter or a lockdown defensive force. Needs to find his niche as a pro.
