SUTTON TO OTTAWA
The Ottawa Senators have acquired defenseman Andy Sutton from the New York Islanders for a second-round draft pick in 2010.
What does it give the Ottawa Senators
Sutton adds even more size and toughness to a blue-line that already featured Anton Volchenkov and Matt Carkner. Since Volchenkov is a potential unrestricted free agent on July 1, Sutton (also a possible UFA) arrives as insurance and depth. Ottawa may start fielding offers for Volchenkov now.
What does it give the New York Islanders
The Islanders are one of the few clear sellers on this year's trade market, despite the fact they are still within reach of a postseason berth in the Eastern Conference race. Still, GM Garth Snow decided to add a future asset in exchange for a veteran defenseman he was likely to lose to unrestricted free agency later this summer.
