SHARKS BRING IN BROSSOIT

The San Jose Sharks acquired goaltender Laurent Brossoit, defenseman Nolan Allan and a seventh-round draft pick in 2028 from the Chicago Blackhawks for defenseman Jake Furlong, a fourth-round draft pick in 2028 and defenseman Ryan Ellis.

What does it give the San Jose Sharks
Veteran Brossoit adds more goaltending depth to the Sharks, who are surprisingly holding down a playoff spot in the West at present time. Since returning from serious injury, Brossoit has been decent at the AHL level, where he should remain unless an injury strikes San Jose. As for Allan, he is defensive defenseman still seeking consistency at the AHL level. There may still be time for Allan.

What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
For the Blackhawks, Furlong is more of an offensive defenseman than Allan. However, his NHL prospects may be limited. The key to this deal from a Chicago point of view is the draft pick upgrade in '28. Ellis is basically retired and currently on LTIR, so his contract may help the 'hawks get to the salary floor in the next few seasons. Chicago is set in goal with Spencer Knight and Arvid Soderblom.

Fantasy impact
Brossoit remains devoid of fantasy value, especially because of his lengthy injury history. He is expected to remain a third-string goaltender with San Jose. Neither Allan nor Furlong are long-term fantasy prospects so there is nothing to see here.
