Steeves signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Maple Leafs on Wednesday.
Steeves, Marshall Rifai, Topi Niemela, Max Lajoie, Mikko Kokkonen, Dennis Hildeby, Dylan Gambrell, Kyle Clifford and Nick Abruzzese were called up from AHL Toronto on Wednesday, per CapFriendly.
The undrafted forward got plenty of attention from NHL teams after three solid seasons at the University of Notre Dame. He is excellent at creating space for himself and looking off defenders to create plays for his teammates. He is agile rather than fast, and needs a quicker first step to maximize his offensive abilities. Occasionally loses his man in the defensive zone but has a quick stick for breaking up plays.
Long Range Potential: Depth forward with a little upside.
