Hamler rushed three times for 21 yards and a touchdown while catching all three of his targets for 11 yards in Saturday's 31-26 preseason loss to the Panthers.
The Bills signed Hamler (undisclosed) to a reserve/future contract Saturday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
His raw speed and running ability in open field present a matchup nightmare for defenses and kick coverage teams. A vertical weapon in the passing game with an elite breakaway gear, he is also deployable as a runner on reverses, jet sweeps and gadget plays designed to free him in space. Can diversify an offense in multiple ways. Is also experienced as a punt and kick returner from his college days. His small, lightweight frame is ill-equipped for high traffic use or heavy contact. Will be dependent on designed plays at the top level.
