Bates played 25 of the Commanders' 72 snaps on offense in Sunday's 21-18 win over the Giants and reeled in his lone target for a five-yard reception.

Bates caught both of his targets for 20 yards in Saturday's 13-6 preseason loss to Miami.
Scouting Report
The huge tight end has decent speed and good athleticism for someone his size. He has the tools to become a good blocker and serviceable receiver, especially if he can improve his quickness. He also has to continue to improve his blocking technique and become a better route runner in order to earn more playing time.
Long Range Potential: Developmental tight end with good tools.
