Yates is a decent arm out of the bullpen, so he should compete for a job in spring training. The Yankees have great depth in the bullpen, so he is not expected to have a big role with New York.
What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
The Indians had designated Yates for assignment, so they did well to get something back for his services. Cleveland had acquired Yates from Tampa Bay in November but felt comfortable without him.

Yates doesn't hold much fantasy value, and whatever he did have in Cleveland is now gone in the Bronx due to their loaded 'pen.
