O'S, BoSOX SWAP FOUR INFIELDERS

The Baltimore Orioles acquired infielders Kelly Johnson and Michael Almanzar from the Boston Red Sox for infielders Jemile Weeks and Ivan De Jesus.

What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
Veteran left-handed bat Johnson is on the move once again--and again to an American East Division rival. After moving from the Yankees to the Red Sox, he now will be part of the Orioles' pennant chase. He'll come off the bench. Meanwhile, Almanzar continues to bounce back and forth between the O's and BoSox, but his path to Baltimore is blocked by {P Manny Machado} at third base. He's more of a project.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
Weeks is a speedster who might be able to carve out a role as a utility man off the Boston bench. He too is blocked for a starting job, though, by {P Dustin Pedroia} at second base in Boston. As for De Jesus, he's mostly a journeyman infielder who will continue to serve as minor-league organizational depth (even for his new team). The Red Sox had De Jesus in their organization in 2012, so they already know him.

Fantasy impact
Almanzar's long-range future looked much better in Beantown than in Maryland, mostly due to Machado, so he loses value here. Johnson and Weeks are mostly bench players nowadays, while De Jesus is a minor leaguer. There isn't much to speak of from a fantasy perspective here.
