REDS TRADE FOR TAYLOR ROGERS
The Cincinnati Reds acquired pitcher Taylor Rogers from the San Francisco Giants for pitcher Braxton Roxby.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
A durable left-handed reliever, Rogers will upgrade Cincinnati's bullpen for the 2025 season. The 34-year-old veteran actually posted a career-best 2.40 ERA last year and pitched in over 60 games for a third straight season. The Reds do have two other proven southpaw relievers (Brent Suter and Sam Moll), but expect Rogers to fill an important role late in games this season. That is why they acquired him.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants
This trade appears to be a salary dump for the Giants, which is disappointing seeing as Rogers had pitched well for them (and their bullpen even featured his twin brother Tyler Rogers). In return, they brought in Roxby, a 25-year-old reliever. He was in the Reds' organization since 2020 but struggled to find much success at Double-A ball the past two seasons. He will now get a fresh start with San Francisco.
Fantasy impact
Rogers should get a boost from this trade. The Giants were not using him in high-leverage situations all that often, but that will likely change with the Reds. Rogers should earn more holds as a result, which will make him useful in many fantasy leagues.
