In a three-team trade, the Atlanta Braves acquired catcher Sean Murphy from the Oakland Athletics; the Milwaukee Brewers acquired catcher William Contreras and pitcher Justin Yeager from Atlanta, and pitcher Joel Payamps from Oakland; and the Athletics acquired catcher Manny Pina and pitchers Kyle Muller, Freddy Tarnok and Royber Salinas from Atlanta, and outfielder/infielder Esteury Ruiz from Milwaukee. |
Payamps agreed to a one-year, $2.995 million contract with the Brewers on Thursday, avoiding arbitration Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Payamps was able to play catch Monday, one day after exiting an appearance versus the Diamondbacks with right forearm tightness, Jack Stern of Brewer Fanatic reports.
Has a live arm and can strike plenty of batters out at lower levels. Can be dominant when on top of his game. Has plenty of bouts of wildness, both in terms of his control and command, so he needs to become more consistent. Was at one point a wiry body type, but he filled out his frame nicely over time. A former starter, he may have found his niche as a reliever.
Long Range Potential: Inconsistent but talented and versatile right-hander.
