The Mariners and Thornton avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2 million contract Thursday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Thornton (4-3) got the win against the Cardinals on Sunday, firing two scoreless innings during which he allowed a hit and recorded two strikeouts.
Has a wide variety of pitches: fastball, curve slider, changeup and cutter. Has some deception in his delivery as well, but he usually throws strikes and displays pretty good command of all of his offerings. Lacks optimum size and bulk for a pitcher in Major League Baseball, so he needs to prove he can become a reliable, durable hurler in the big leagues.
Long Range Potential: Solid right-hander with a little upside.
