The Pirates designated Woodford for assignment Thursday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Woodford did not factor into the decision in a loss to the Cardinals on Wednesday, allowing four runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings while striking out five.
Lanky and whip-smart, this sinker specialist unleashes a sneaky-high amount of velocity. Susceptible to getting hit if he leaves it up in the zone, his two-seam sinker is nonetheless a plus pitch and his best weapon. Able to sell the changeup due to pretty good arm speed, the cerebral right-hander would need to improve control and command to stick in the majors.
Long Range Potential: Talented but inconsistent right-hander.
