The Astros selected Vazquez's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday.

Vazquez has made the Astros' Opening Day roster as a backup catcher, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Scouting Report

Has a very projectable frame for the catching position. Is a talented receiver who also boasts excellent strike-zone judgment and developing power at the plate. Is a leader. Needs to add more bulk in order to be able to withstand the rigors of the catching position over the long haul. Also needs to hit better for average. Injuries are a concern.

Long Range Potential: Solid catcher with a little upside, when healthy.
