The Red Sox signed Ottavino to a minor-league contract Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Ottavino was handed a blown save in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Yankees after allowing all three batters he faced to reach base. He hit a batter and surrendered a two-run double to Aaron Judge and a two-run home run to Giancarlo Stanton.
Boasts an ideal pitchers' frame. Is capable of pitching to contact and striking batters out. Found his niche pitching out of the bullpen, where his personality truly shines through. Injuries have become an issue for him, so stamina is also a problem. His big-league productivity can be sabotaged by too many walks and home runs. Lacks consistency in MLB.
Long Range Potential: Veteran right-hander, when healthy.
