PENS ACQUIRE HAMHUIS

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired defenseman Dan Hamhuis from the Philadelphia Flyers for a third-round draft pick in 2011.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
This deal certainly was a shocker, since the Flyers just recently acquired the rights to Hamhuis, and also since these two bitter rivals don't often deal with each other. Now, the Pens will turn their full attention towards signing Hamhuis long term, which the Flyers were unable to do.

What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers did well to at least get something more in return for Hamhuis, since they gave up defender Ryan Parent to Nashville to get his rights in the first place. The final tally will be a seventh rounder in 2011 from Nashville and a third rounder in '11 from the Pens. It was strange, but not bad for either side.
