GAUTHIER TO L.A.
The Los Angeles Kings acquired defenseman Denis Gauthier and a second-round draft pick in 2010 from the Philadelphia Flyers for defenseman Patrik Hersley and winger Ned Lukacevic.
What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
The Kings add a physical dimension on defense with the addition of Gauthier, who spent 2007-08 in the AHL due to a high salary-cap hit for the Flyers. That won't be an issue on the rebuilding Kings. Adding a high pick for 2010 makes this move more palatable from a Kings perspective.
What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers needed the cap relief, so they decided to throw in a second rounder just to part ways with Gauthier's contract. In so doing, they also take a flyer, no pun intended, on Hersley and Lukacevic. They both should be regulars with the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms in 2008-09.
