PENS ADD GUERIN

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired winger Bill Guerin from the New York Islanders for a conditional draft pick in 2009 (from rounds 3 to 5).

What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins were desperate to add a right-shooting winger to play a top-six forward role, so Guerin fits the bill from a short-term perspective. He should help the power play and may rejuvenate his career playing with quality centers in Pittsburgh. He's a low-risk move for the Pens at this time.

What does it give the New York Islanders
The Isles get a fifth-round draft pick that can turn into a fourth or third rounder, depending on what happens to Pittsburgh in the standings down the stretch. They lose their captain but get a fresh start in a rebuilding situation. Guerin didn't play well enough this season to garner more from a contending team.
