OILERS ADD D-MAN FRASER FROM TORONTO

The Edmonton Oilers acquired defenseman Mark Fraser from the Toronto Maple Leafs for wingers Teemu Hartikainen and Cameron Abney.

What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
Fraser can provide stay-at-home defensive presence and physicality to any NHL club. He was very good for the Maple Leafs last season, but has struggled in 2013-14 and was scratched a lot recently. He should help Edmonton, albeit marginally.

What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto needed to dump a contract with the expected return of center {P Dave Bolland} from Long-Term Injured Reserve, so they sent Fraser to the Oil and acquired a restricted free agent winger in Hartikainen (currently toiling in the KHL) and fringe minor leaguer in Abney.

Fantasy impact
There's a chance the Leafs may be able to convince Hartikainen to return to the NHL for the 2014-15 campaign, which would be a coup. He is a fantasy dark horse with some untapped scoring upside. As for Fraser, his fantasy value will always be limited to occasional penalty minutes.
