KINGS GET VETERAN BLUELINER REGEHR

The Los Angeles Kings acquired defenseman Robyn Regehr from the Buffalo Sabres for a second-round draft pick in 2014 and a second-round draft pick in 2015.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
In Regehr, the Kings essentially replace the injured {P Willie Mitchell}, who is not expected back this season. He adds yet another physical element to a team littered with grit and toughness. More importantly, however, he's a veteran who will help the penalty kill and provide a bit more stability from the back end. Regehr is also very familiar with coach Darryl Sutter from their Flames days, so he should fit in well right away.

What does it give the Buffalo Sabres
This is a good haul for the Sabres for a defenseman who was likely to leave via unrestricted free agency this summer. Landing two second-round draft picks in '14 and '15 won't make casual fans take notice at this point, but it should eventually pay dividends for a Buffalo team that has virtually thrown in the towel on the 2013 campaign. Without Regehr, it's time for young {P Tyler Myers} to take on an even bigger role in Buffalo.

Fantasy impact
Regehr won't provide much in terms of fantasy value, but at least his plus/minus rating should improve as long as he's wearing a Kings uniform. Otherwise, this deal is all about the future assets acquired by the Sabres, which should eventually have fantasy value.
