CANUCKS ADD BALLARD

The Vancouver Canucks acquired defenseman Keith Ballard and winger Victor Oreskovich from the Florida Panthers for wingers Steve Bernier and Michael Grabner, and a first-round draft pick in 2010.

What does it give the Vancouver Canucks
In Ballard, the Canucks add another solid puck-moving defenseman. He is also a great open-ice hitter and more physical than some of their other puck movers, so he's a nice fit for Vancouver. Oreskovich has size and some upside, so he has a good opportunity to play a bottom-six forward in 2010-11.

What does it give the Florida Panthers
The Panthers add two wingers who should play in Florida in 2010-11. Bernier is more of a role player, but with some untapped potential. Grabner is a scorer who should get more chances for quality ice time with the Cats. With the first rounder, Florida added forward Quinton Howden, who will be more of a long-term asset in this deal.
