DUCKS LAND COGLIANO FROM EDMONTON

The Anaheim Ducks acquired forward Andrew Cogliano from the Edmonton Oilers for a second-round draft pick in 2013.

What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
In Cogliano, the Ducks land a speedy forward with sound two-way instincts. He'll probably take over as the club's No. 3 center and essentially replace the retired Todd Marchant (another former Oiler) in terms of penalty-killing and defensive responsibilities.

What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers no longer had room for Cogliano, due to the influx of young forwards and off-season acquisitions of Eric Belanger and Ryan Smyth. The move gives Edmonton a future prospect, while opening up a center spot for a rookie like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
