KARL STEWART FOR NIKITA ALEXEEV
The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired left winger Karl Stewart and a sixth-round draft pick in 2007 from the Chicago Blackhawks for forward Nikita Alexeev.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
Stewart is a great skater and an energy guy, so he should be a better fit on the fourth line than the departed Alexeev. He'll provide a lot of grit, but not a lot of scoring for the Bolts. Adding a draft pick is merely a bonus.
What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
Alexeev is a high-upside winger that has not delivered the goods in Tampa Bay, but could get a fresh start in the Windy City. Expect him to play a third-line role with the Blackhawks. Rick Dudley, formerly with the Lightning and currently in the Chicago organization, has always been high on Alexeev.
