The Montreal Canadiens acquired goaltender Hunter Shepard and winger Jake Chiasson from the Ottawa Senators for center Riley Kidney.

The Canadiens needed another goaltender in the AHL after recalling Jacob Fowler to Montreal recently. So they were able to swing a deal to land Shepard for the AHL stretch drive.

What does it give the Ottawa Senators
The Senators are deeper on the wings than at the center position down on the farm, so adding Kidney for Chiasson makes sense–even if it sent Shepard to the rival Habs
