ISLES, DEVILS DO A DEAL FOR PALAT
The New York Islanders acquired winger Ondrej Palat, a third-round draft pick in 2026 and a sixth-round draft pick in 2027 from the New Jersey Devils for winger Maxim Tsyplakov.
What does it give the New York Islanders
For the second time in two days, the Islanders have made a deal with one of their New York City area rivals! After adding D-man Carson Soucy from the Rangers, the Isles this time acquire grizzled vet Palat, who used to play for the same team current Isles GM Mathieu Darche was with prior to joining New York–the Tampa Bay Lightning. Palat's experience should help the Isles, a team in decent playoff position at present time.
What does it give the New Jersey Devils
The Devils needed to dump salary in order to make other alterations to the roster. So they shipped two draft picks to the Islanders and agreed to take back Tsyplakov, a bigger, younger winger than Palat who also makes a lot less in terms of salary. Palat was struggling in New Jersey this season, while Tsyplakov was playing sparingly on Long Island. Therefore, this trade could benefit all parties involved–eventually.
Fantasy impact
While both Palat and Tsyplakov needed a change of scenery this season, do not expect much from either winger down the stretch. Tsyplakov might be worth a speculative pickup in deep leagues but Palat should remain on the waiver wire.
