JARRY JETTISONED TO THE OILERS

The Edmonton Oilers acquired goaltender Tristan Jarry and forward Sam Poulin from the Pittsburgh Penguins for goaltender Stuart Skinner, defenseman Brett Kulak and a second-round draft pick in 2029.

What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers were rumored to be interested in Jarry for quite some time now. The surprise here is that they decided to trade Skinner in the same deal. Reports suggested Edmonton wanted both Jarry and Skinner but ultimately made the move to make Jarry their goaltender of the present and future. Losing Kulak hurts a bit because of his defensive chops but Spencer Stastney was acquired from Nashville in a separate deal to add some depth on defense.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
For Pittsburgh, getting out from under Jarry's contract was definitely on the agenda this season. While Jarry played very well in 2025-26, the Penguins want Sergei Murashov to become the starting goaltender sooner rather than later. For now, Skinner will likely share the net with Arturs Silovs. Kulak should be a big addition to the Penguins, a team that needs more blueline help–especially on the left side. The '29 second-round pick will likely become a key piece to this trade.

Fantasy impact
Jarry's value should improve in Edmonton because he will likely play most nights. Calvin Pickard will probably be strictly a backup moving forward. Skinner will move to a time share in Pittsburgh with Silovs, but do not be surprised if he is moved again this season to allow Murashov an opportunity at the NHL level. Poulin was still not an NHL regular in Pittsburgh, so he will get a new opportunity with a new team. He needed the fresh start but for now holds no fantasy value. Kulak is a solid defensive defenseman devoid of much fantasy value.
