J.T. MILLER MOVED TO NEW YORK!
The New York Rangers acquired center J.T. Miller and defensemen Erik Brannstrom and Jackson Dorrington from the Vancouver Canucks for center Filip Chytil, defenseman Victor Mancini and a conditional first-round draft pick in 2025.
What does it give the New York Rangers
Both teams involved in this massive trade have gone through all sorts of drama this season. So the hope is things can settle down and get back to normal now. Miller is the best player in this trade and should be a big boost for a Rangers squad that still has big aspirations in 2024-25. Brannstrom will provide organizational depth along the back end, while Dorrington is a blueline prospect currently playing college hockey. This trade should greatly help the Rangers, but more moves are likely to come in the coming weeks. This roster is not a finished product.
What does it give the Vancouver Canucks
For the Canucks, this trade was almost impossible to win because of the public spat that Miller and former teammate Elias Pettersson were engaged in this season. So, Chytil becomes an important piece for Vancouver. The hope is that he can become the team's new No. 2 center behind Pettersson. Chytil still has some untapped offensive upside, but his injury history (concussions) is a massive concern. Mancini saw his first taste of NHL action earlier in '24-25 and could be a nice throw-in for the Canucks. Like New York, Vancouver is not done dealing.
Fantasy impact
Miller is likely to produce better numbers with the Rangers now that he has parted ways with all of the drama in British Columbia, which was largely self-inflicted. Chytil's stock should also be on the rise now that he has landed in Vancouver. Both players are worth trading for in many fantasy leagues if the price is right. Brannstrom, Mancini and Dorrington are off the fantasy radar for the foreseeable future.
