LOGAN THOMPSON TRADED TO WASHINGTON

The Washington Capitals acquired goaltender Logan Thompson from the Vegas Golden Knights for a third-round draft pick in 2024 (No. 83 overall) and a third-round draft pick in 2025.

What does it give the Washington Capitals
The Capitals continue their busy off-season by acquiring Thompson. He will now form a rare, right-catching tandem with Charlie Lindgren. Thompson was the Knights' No. 1 netminder last season after Adin Hill was injured, going 25-14-5 with a 2.70 goals-against average. Thompson has a desire to play more games, so it should be a good goaltending battle to watch in Washington this season.

What does it give the Vegas Golden Knights
In a weird twist of fate, the Golden Knights traded Thompson while he was holding an autograph session for fans in Vegas during the draft. He had requested a trade earlier in the off-season, so Vegas granted him his wish. In return, the Golden Knights received two third-round picks. With how Vegas operates, the players picked are more likely to be trade bait than suit up for the team one day.

Fantasy impact
Lindgren was a surprise fantasy contributor last season, after he took the job from Darcy Kuemper in D.C. Back in another goalkeeping battle, this time with Thompson, fantasy managers will have to keep an eye on how the workload gets divided up in Washington Thompson and Lindgren may split the vote in terms of both starts and fantasy value.
