HAMHUIS TO PHILADELPHIA

The Philadelphia Flyers acquired defenseman Dan Hamhuis and a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2011 from the Nashville Predators for defenseman Ryan Parent.

What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers will try to sign Hamhuis before July 1, since the veteran shutdown rearguard is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. If he chooses to become a Flyer officially, the club will likely trade either Braydon Coburn (RFA) or Matt Carle (signed through 2011-12). The conditional draft pick will probably only change hands if Philly cannot sign Hamhuis.

What does it give the Nashville Predators
Parent will begin his second go-around with Nashville, after being taken in the first round by the club in 2005. He struggled in 2009-10 and was eventually benched by coach Peter Laviolette in the playoffs. Back with his original team, Parent could find new lease on life. He too is a free agent (RFA) this summer, but he's expected to be easily re-signed by the Preds.
