SENS ADD SAPRYKIN

The Ottawa Senators acquired left winger Oleg Saprykin and a seventh-round draft pick in 2007 from the Phoenix Coyotes for a second-round draft pick in 2008.

What does it give the Ottawa Senators
Saprykin adds even more scoring depth for the Senators. He tends to run hot and cold, but has played fairly well under trying circumstances in the Desert this season. Saprykin also performed well in the playoffs with the Calgary Flames in 2004, so he could be an impact player this spring. Lastly, Saprykin played with current Sen Mike Comrie in Phoenix, so a little familiarity should help his adjustment to the Eastern Conference.

What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
Obviously, the Coyotes are in full-fledged selling mode. Saprykin was a solid performer for the Coyotes, but he wasn't going to be a major aspect of the team's rebuilding efforts. Therefore, they did well to add another high-end draft pick. Moving Saprykin at this time also fuels more speculation that the Coyotes will be major players on the unrestricted free agent market this summer... especially up front.
