MAYERS TO TORONTO

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired forward Jamal Mayers from the St. Louis Blues for a third-round draft pick in 2008.

What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs had been after local product Mayers for quite some time now, but perhaps this year was not the ideal time to land him. After all, the Leafs have several veterans under contract that they need to unload if they are to follow through on their supposed rebuilding plan. Still, Mayers will help Toronto on the third line, provided they make more moves to weed out the herd.

What does it give the St. Louis Blues
The Leafs had two third rounders in 2008, so they sent the No. 70th overall pick to the Blues--who have players ready to take Mayers' spot in the lineup. They need to make room for promising forwards such as T.J. Oshie, Patrik Berglund and Lars Eller, so this move is a step in that direction.
