GENO SMITH BACK TO THE JETS
The New York Jets acquired quarterback Geno Smith and a seventh-round draft pick in 2026 (No. 228 overall) for a sixth-round draft pick in 2026 (No. 208 overall).
What does it give the New York Jets
The Jets seem to change starting quarterbacks every single off-season. Last year, they tried Justin Fields. The year before that, it was Aaron Rodgers. This time, they are bringing back Smith. Does the veteran QB have anything left? Based on his last two campaigns, the answer is likely no.
What does it give the Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders hold the first pick in this year's NFL Draft and are expected to select quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Therefore, dealing Smith makes sense. Instead of releasing Smith outright, they decided to restructure his contract in order to get a pick upgrade this year.
Fantasy impact
Smith is no longer a recommendable fantasy option for most leagues. His interception rate is a problem and he might not be able to resurrect his career in New York. Buyer beware.
