SPURS DUMP RATLIFF
The Charlotte Bobcats acquired center/forward Theo Ratliff from the San Antonio Spurs for a future draft pick.
What does it give the Charlotte Hornets
After picking up Tyrus Thomas earlier in the day the Bobs don't really need another center, but at the very least Ratliff can provide some veteran grit and leadership for the Bobs as they try to make the playoffs (presuming he sticks around). His affordable contract comes off the books following this season.
What does it give the San Antonio Spurs
But moving him, the Spurs save having to pay the rest of Ratliff's inexpensive contract for the rest of this season, while also saving just over $800,000 in luxury tax. He wasn't playing much for the Spurs and San Antonio already has several veteran leaders (so he was expendable).
