NATE ROBINSON TO BOSTON
The Boston Celtics acquired guard Nate Robinson and forward Marcus Landry from the New York Knickerbockers for guards Eddie House and J.R. Giddeens and forward Bill Walker.
What does it give the Boston Celtics
Robinson is an electic talent who can play either guard position, but his tendency to sometimes play out of control put him in New York bench boss Mike D'Antoni's doghouse. He will give the Celtics a nice spark off the bench backing up Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen. Robinson's contract expires after this season, so if he doesn't pan out in Beantown, at the very least he gives the Celts a short-term backcourt upgrade. Landry is a little-used swingman who appears to be a throw-in for salary purposes.
What does it give the New York Knicks
House was very dependable for Boston in his time there but is aging and is not a star, while Giddens and Walker didn't quite pan out for the Celtics. Both players have contracts that will be up after this season so the Knicks can free up cap space by letting them go in the summer. Look for Chris Duhon to regain his former playing time as a starter with the Knicks now that Robinson is gone. Walker has a very small salary and should provide the Knicks with anoher young athletic depth option off the bench.
