JOE JOHNSON TO NETS FOR PLAYERS & PICKS

The Brooklyn Nets acquired shooting guard Joe Johnson from the Atlanta Hawks for swingman DeShawn Stevenson, point guard Jordan Farmar, shooting guard Anthony Morrow, center Johan Petro, power forward/center Jordan Williams, a 2013 first-round draft pick and a 2017 second-round draft pick.

What does it give the Atlanta Hawks
This deal gives the Hawks several promising (if not stellar) depth players, plus rids them of Johnson's massive long-term contract. Johnson was mostly great for Atlanta but new GM Danny Ferry is clearly trying to re-tool his talented squad to get younger and have more roster flexibility. None of the newcomers looks likely to be a starter for Atlanta (except perhaps Morrow, who might earn the top shooting guard or small forward gig) but again, their contracts will be a lot easier to deal with than Johnson's was. The draft picks will also help with the youth movement.

What does it give the Brooklyn Nets
Brooklyn moves into a new building this year and with stars {P Deron Williams}, {P Gerald Wallace}, and {P Brook Lopez} all re-signed, Johnson will bring the clutch veteran perimeter scoring needed to make the Nets competitive right away. If the team keeps {P Marshon Brooks} around, New Jersey suddenly looks like one of the more talented starting fives in the East.
