ROCKETS REEL IN FLYNN

The Houston Rockets acquired point guard Jonny Flynn, the rights to forward/center Donatas Motiejunas and a second-round draft pick in 2012 from the Minnesota Timberwolves for center Brad Miller, the rights to Nikola Mirotic and a 2013 1st-round draft pick.

What does it give the Minnesota Timberwolves
Minny needs to clarify their point guard pecking order now that Ricky Rubio has decided to make the move from Europe, so sending out Flynn makes sense. They also faced adding a rookie contract to the payroll in Motiejunas, and the T-Wolves already have too many similar big-men vying for minutes. Miller can help take some pressure off Kevin Love in the paint, and mentor young centers Darko Milicic and Nikola Pekovic.

What does it give the Houston Rockets
Flynn is still a high-potential pro point guard, and a change of scenery might help him get his game back on track. He doesn't look likely to start ahead of Kyle Lowry in Houston, but Flynn should provide quality play off the bench for the Rockets. Meanwhile Motiejunas is an intriguing addition for Houston in that he fits well with their youth movement, and if he fills out his 7-foot frame he may even eventually be able to replace Yao Ming at center (if all works out ideally).
