ROCKETS ALSO LAND FISHER

The Houston Rockets acquired point guard Derek Fisher from the Los Angeles Lakers for power forward Jordan Hill and a first-round pick in the 2012 draft.

What does it give the Houston Rockets
Fisher is a quality veteran point guard, and while he's aging and not quite the player he used to be, he brings excellent depth. That's key for Houston as they push for the postseason, since usual starter {P Kyle Lowry} is sidelined for several weeks and promising backup {P Goran Dragic} needs some depth behind him. Giving up a first-rounder is a bit steep here, but they'll get to keep Fisher for next season as well, and he brings rare veteran leadership.

What does it give the Los Angeles Lakers
Hill is quietly emerging as an above-average post player this season and the Lakers didn't need Fisher anymore after picking up {P Ramon Sessions} from Cleveland. Expect Hill to step in as a regular backup for {P Andrew Bynum} and {P Pau Gasol}, and for Laker fans to be pleased they get back a first-round pick here (after losing one in the Sessions swap). Nice transaction by the Lake Show.
