SMART SENT TO D.C. IN 3-TEAM SWAP
In a three-team trade, the Washington Wizards acquired guard/forward Marcus Smart and a first-round draft pick in 2025 from the Memphis Grizzlies, and guard Colby Jones, center Alex Len and a second-round draft pick in 2028 from the Sacramento Kings; Memphis acquired center/forward Marvin Bagley III and guard Johnny Davis from the Wizards, and two second-round draft picks in from the Kings; and Sacramento acquired forward Jake LaRavia from the Grizzlies.
What does it give the Washington Wizards
Smart is a very versatile and important NBA player, but he is of more use to playoff-bound teams. He will head to D.C. as a veteran presence for a very young team. Jones may be able to carve out a bigger role in Washington, while Len is merely a depth center. The first-rounder in '25 is the key to this deal from a Wizards perspective.
What does it give the Memphis Grizzlies
For Memphis, moving on from LaRavia enabled them to land two second-round draft picks as well as veteran big man Bagley III. Davis is more of a journeyman but he might be able to replace LaRavia in the rotation. Overall, the Grizzlies did well to get four assets in exchange for LaRavia, a player who was not an essential piece to the puzzle.
What does it give the Sacramento Kings
For Sacramento, LaRavia should be able to play a more prominent role than the one he is leaving in Tennessee. He has enough versatility to play at least three of the five positions on the court, but he is not a true difference-making forward. That said, they did not surrender a lot in this trade and might get a lot in return.
Fantasy impact
None of the players involved in this three-team trade are automatic pick-up options in most fantasy formats. Smart has some appeal, but probably not for the rest of this season. LaRavia may be worth keeping an eye on, but that is about it.
