JAZZ LAND DEREK FISHER

The Utah Jazz acquired guard Derek Fisher from the Golden State Warriors for guards Devin Brown, Keith McLeod and Andre Owens.

What does it give the Utah Jazz
A quality veteran point guard with great shooting range and playoff success. Fisher is a perfect add for the Jazz at this point, since they're on the verge of making it back to the postseason. They have a solid veteran frontcourt but their backcourt is young and inexperienced. Enter Fisher, who won title rings with the Lakers and who showed last season he's still one of the most solid guards in the NBA. He's a natural point guard but can also fill in at the 2-spot, and his three-point range is excellent. Fisher is also a good clubhouse presence who can be a leader for the Jazz.

What does it give the Golden State Warriors
Two solid role players in Brown and McLeod, and an aging prospect in Owens who still may improve. Both Brown and Owens are solid scorers and McLeod is an underrated point guard who can run a team if given the chance. All that said, this is an odd deal for Golden State. They didn't really need any of these players more than they need Fisher. There was a minor point guard controversy brewing on the Warriors because Fisher was much more effective last year than star Baron Davis, so that might have something to do with the deal. There is a chance none of these three players will end up on the Warrior roster next season, so it may just be a way to get Fisher's salary off the books.
