SIXERS LAND SAM YOUNG

The Philadelphia 76ers acquired guard/forward Sam Young from the Memphis Grizzlies for the rights to center Ricky Sanchez.

What does it give the Philadelphia 76ers
Young is a solid multi-purpose player who can legitimately line up at either shooting guard or small forward, so he'll bring good depth to the Sixers playoff push. With the production of {P Jodie Meeks} tailing off significantly this season, Young should add good energy and two-way play off the Philly bench. The fact Young has a very affordable, expiring contract is an added bonus.

What does it give the Memphis Grizzlies
This is the third time the rights to Sanchez have been traded since he was an early second-round pick back in 2005 (No. 35 overall by the Blazers) so it's clear he's both a talent and an enigma. It's unclear when Sanchez will be able or ready to make the leap to the NBA, but the Grizz have a solid track record with most prospects and tend to covet big men more than other teams (and Sanchez is playing pretty well for his team in Argentina). Young wasn't seeing many minutes lately with the re-emergence of {P=1991 O.J. Mayo} and with {P Quincy Pondexter} also playing well, so moving some salary here makes sense for the Grizz.
