FINLEY TO THE DODGERS

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder Steve Finley and catcher Brent Mayne from the Arizona Diamondbacks for minor-league catcher Koyie Hill, minor-league pitcher Bill Murphy and minor-league outfielder Reggie Abercrombie.

What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers have upgraded their offense with arguably the best bat on the market right now. The 39-year-old center-fielder is having one of his better years and will slip right into center in L.A. He has the legs, power and plate discipline to bat pretty much anywhere in the lineup. With Mayne, they get a veteran catcher to split time with David Ross after the trade of Paul Lo Duca on Friday. Though he doesn't exactly have a booming bat, Finley will take care of that and he makes up for that by being a solid veteran backstop who handles pitchers well.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Hill was thought to be the Dodgers' catcher of the future, but now it looks like he's the D'backs'. The young switch-hitter has looked strong in his second season of Triple-A as a consistent hitter with occasional power and the ability to hit the ball from line to line. Though he's not a great defensive catcher, he's learning. Abercrombie is an amazing athlete, a legitimate five-tool outfielder. However, he had trouble with a promotion to Double-A this year and was sent back to High-A. Murphy was just acquired on Friday from the Marlins and has been quickly shipped off to Arizona. He's a left-handed starting prospect with some pretty good upside.
