ESTRADA FOR MOTA

The New York Mets acquired catcher Johnny Estrada from the Milwaukee Brewers for reliever Guillermo Mota.

What does it give the New York Mets
The Mets almost had a deal done with former Rockies catcher Yorvit Torrealba, but they backed out at the last minute. Enter Estrada, who is expected to see most of the action against right-handed pitching--with right-handed hitting Ramon Castro doing the catching against southpaws, since the switch-hitting Estrada is a far better hitter from the left side.

What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
Mota give the Brewers another late-inning option out of the bullpen. Last year's closer, Francisco Cordero, is a free agent, so Mota may get a chance to become the setup man for last year's eighth inning reliever--former closer Derrick Turnbow. The Brewers will now look for a new starting catcher via free agency.
