CALLASPO TO HALOS
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim acquired third baseman Alberto Callaspo from the Kansas City Royals for pitchers Sean O'Sullivan and Will Smith.
What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
The Angels have received minimal production from the third base thus far this season and that, coupled with Kendry Morales' absence because of a leg injury, forced the club to make a move for some offense, as they are still hoping to take a run at the AL West title. A versatile, switch-hitting infielder (second base is his primary position) that makes regular contact, Callaspo began his pro career with the Angels a decade ago.
What does it give the Kansas City Royals
A much-needed injection of young pitching arms to the organization. While Smith provides a potential long-term option, O'Sullivan has the ability to step right into the big club's rotation soon enough. A promising hurler with still lots of youth on his side, the sophomore is competitive and brings a solid fastball with good control. For the moment, Wilson Betemit looks like the best bet to take over Callaspo's playing time at the hot corner in K.C.
