BRAVES GET BOURN FROM HOUSTON

The Atlanta Braves acquired center-fielder Michael Bourn from the Houston Astros for outfielder Jordan Schafer and pitchers Brett Oberholtzer, Paul Clemens and Juan Abreu.

What does it give the Atlanta Braves
In Bourn, the Braves land a big upgrade in center field and the leadoff spot over Nate McLouth and the departing Jordan Schafer. He will provide a lot of speed at the top of the batting order, which was something the Braves didn't have enough of. Bourn could make a huge impact on the National League pennant race.

What does it give the Houston Astros
The Astros received a lot of quantity in exchange for Bourn, but did they get enough quality? Schafer might wind up as Bourn's replacement in center field, but he still is unproven. Abreu is a relief prospect with marginal upside, while Oberholtzer and Clemens are mid-range starting prospects. Obviously, Houston is now in complete rebuilding mode. This won't accelerate the process much, though.
