PADRES GET CLOSER STREET

The San Diego Padres acquired pitcher Huston Street and cash from the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named later.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
After losing Heath Bell to free agency, the Padres needed a closer. Enter Street, who lost the job in Denver to Rafael Betancourt in 2011 but is a proven producer in the ninth inning (health permitting). The Pads also received some money to pay for Street's contract in this transaction.

What does it give the Colorado Rockies
The Rockies were desperate to unload Street's contract in order to better balance their budget (and officially anoint Betancourt their closer). So, they sent Street packing to division-rival San Diego and even paid some of his contract to complete the deal. They'll get back a marginal prospect.
