CASTRO NOW WITH ORIOLES
The Baltimore Orioles acquired infielder Juan Castro from the Colorado Rockies for infielder Mike McCoy.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
This is obvoiusly no blockbuster, but the Orioles need a right-handed shortstop to platoon with lefty-swinging Brandon Fahey for the rest of the season. Castro also brings a dependable glove and a solld veteran presence, although he is highly unlikely to be more than a defensive and occasional platoon replacement for Baltimore going forward.
What does it give the Colorado Rockies
The 'player to be named later' is reportedly infield prospect Mike McCoy. He'll more or less switch places with Castro on the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate, and like Castro he is a light-hitting but solid infielder; unlike Castro he is in his mid-20s and still has a bit of upside, although Colorado is already loaded with more-heralded infield prospects.
