CARDS ADD VETERAN LEFTY ZACH DUKE
The St. Louis Cardinals acquired pitcher Zach Duke from the Chicago White Sox for outfielder Charlie Tilson.
What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals already boast an excellent left-handed reliever in Kevin Siegrist, so Duke will add another weapon to their quality bullpen. Duke is signed through 2017, so this deal will impact St. Louis beyond the stretch drive. They also did not give up too much to land Duke, since they have outfield depth.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox
Illinois native Tilson should be stoked to be with the White Sox now, and he could see action in Major League Baseball at some point this season. Tilson may not hit enough to stick as an everyday center-fielder but might be an interesting option for 2017. At worst, Tilson could be Chicago's fourth outfielder in '17.
Fantasy impact
Duke's fantasy value might actually take a dip as a Cardinal, since Siegrist will probably remain the top left-handed option out of the bullpen (and a greater source of holds). As for Tilson, his fantasy stock has improved a bit moving from St. Louis to Chicago but he is not guaranteed a starting job in 2017. He is an intriguing stolen-base threat.
