CUBS LAND VETERAN STARTER DAN HAREN

The Chicago Cubs acquired pitcher Dan Haren from the Miami Marlins for pitcher Ivan Pineyro and infielder Elliot Soto.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
In Haren, the Cubs land a veteran right-hander who should take over as the team's No. 5 starter for the rest of 2015. He isn't as good as he used to be but still can throw a gem now and then. Chicago got him for a decent price, too.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
For the Marlins, Pineyro is the key player in this deal as he has some pretty good upside as a future big-league starter (or reliever). As for Soto, he's a decent infielder who projects to become a backup if he reaches Major League Baseball.

Fantasy impact
Haren's short-term fantasy value gets a boost by heading to the contending Cubs. He is a decent option for the rest of this season. Pineyro should now be on the fantasy radar as a keeper leaguer but Soto's value is negligible at this time.
