YANKEES ADD McGEHEE FOR INFIELD DEPTH

The New York Yankees acquired infielder Casey McGehee from the Pittsburgh Pirates for pitcher Chad Qualls.

What does it give the New York Yankees
This is a very good pickup for the Yankees for the short term, as McGehee can help fill in at third base during Alex Rodriguez' absence. McGehee can also fill in at first base and do some DHing while in Pinstripes. He does well against left-handed pitching, so expect him to be used mainly in that role.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
This is a bit of a head-scratcher for the Bucs, who were looking for a reliever to help replace the traded Brad Lincoln (who went to Toronto for Travis Snider). Still, Qualls is not likely the answer, as he's bounced around the big leagues for a while now. He was on his way out of the Bronx, either way.
