PHILS GET RELIEVER LINCOLN FROM TORONTO

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired pitcher Brad Lincoln from the Toronto Blue Jays for catcher Erik Kratz and pitcher Rob Rasmussen.

What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
Philadelphia is looking for a makeover in their bullpen, specifically seeking arms that can bridge the gap between their quality starting pitching and veteran closer {P Jonathan Papelbon}. Enter Lincoln, who showed some promise in the National League while with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He struggled in Toronto but could bounce back nicely in 2014. He has a chance to be a setup man in Philly.

What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
Kratz has pretty good pop in his bat and is a capable backup catcher, so look for him to be the No. 2 man behind the plate in Toronto in 2014--behind new starter {P Dioner Navarro}. Rasmussen is a decent prospect with good starter potential, making him a very nice addition to this deal. In fact, his inclusion probably tips the scales towards the Blue Jays in this transaction.

Fantasy impact
Lincoln may see more hold opportunities in Philadelphia, and may also be more comfortable in the NL. Therefore, he has a bit of dark-horse appeal as a reliever. Kratz isn't likely to have much fantasy value, unless Navarro goes down for a long stretch. As for Rasmussen, he should be on the keeper-league radar in most leagues, though the Jays have been a bit suspect in developing starting pitchers lately.
