BUCS ADD SANCHEZ FOR HERNANDEZ

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired first baseman Gaby Sanchez and pitcher Kyle Kaminska from the Miami Marlins for outfielder Gorkys Hernandez.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
Sanchez bottomed out with the Marlins this season, to the point where they wound up trading for Carlos Lee to replace him. Sanchez has spent significant time in Triple-A ball this season, but don't be surprised if the gets summoned by the Pirates early on to be used in a platoon role at first base (at least). It's a good gamble for the contending Pirates, since they had depth outfielders to spare.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
Hernandez is a very good glove man who is capable of patrolling center field. That was never going to happen in Pittsburgh, where Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte reside. In Miami, he could emerge as the everyday man in the middle but he must prove he can hit enough to do so. Like Sanchez for Pittsburgh, Hernandez is a good gamble for the Marlins at this time.
